No I don't think they're too bad barley, I've definitely seen much worse! I'm a bit of a weirdo and I've checked most of my client's teeth lol, most of those are much worse and they are a lot younger than him. I can definitely see what part you're worried about, and I would definitely scrape them too, but I don't think it's anything to panic about.
They're only pearly whites because I scraped them You should have seen them before, they were pretty bad! That was a year or two ago now and I've only brushed them a handful of times since, so the bones must be helping to keep the worst away. It's just the little area that's going brown (mainly on the left side) that's annoying me, I wish I hadn't gotten rid of my scraper now. I didn't really pay full attention to it until I just took those photos and it's annoying me more now lol so I definitely think I'll get a scraper again and keep it this time.
And now I'm going to ruin the thread by posting photos of my two's teeth!
Pepper's right side (there's only one pic for each dog coz they refused to turn over):
Ellie's right side:
But then, this is the reason I posed the question in the first place. barley your Alfie's are nowhere near terrible in comparison to these. The build up that is there looks like it'd come off fairly easily with the right method.
After reading through all this I remembered that I actually gave my old dental scrapers to my dad (to use as tools), but he's never used them so I took them back to scrape his back teeth. After I'd finished I was just checking the rest of his teeth and they're not as good as I thought.
Right at the very VERY back - so far back that you can't even see the teeth without opening his jaws while you pull his lips back (further back than you can see in my photos, and you can see there how far I'm pulling his lips back!) - on the left side there are two little teeth, the top one is covered in tartar, the bottom one was fairly clean but I poked about at it and it wobbles a tiny bit, eeeek! I'm really worried now and don't know what to do! He's due to see the vet soon anyway, but there's no way the vet would be able to see it as it's so fiddly to get to! Argh!
Panic over I've just had another look in more natural light and what I thought was tartar has magically disappeared - it must have been biscuit crumbs or just shadows or something - it was late! and the wobbly bottom tooth DOES move a teeny bit, but I think my eyes were playing tricks on me because it's literally about a millimetre. I'm not sure if that's normal either, but it certainly doesn't look all manky and rotten or anything, so I'll just keep an eye on it. He doesn't mind me poking about in there anyway, good boy!
Definitely going to be keeping up with more regular brushing and checking after I nearly gave myself a heart attack
caz2golden: Why is it when you look back on something you wish you had done things differently. Came across a road accident on way home from work tonight wished I had been more proactive!

alfiemummy: It's most likely your mouse that needs replacing Caz - that's happened to me twice now and both times it's been fixed by getting a new mouse
