I have previousley owned 2 german spitz named Mitzi Moo and Phoebe my 2 little angelsxx gone but never forgotten xx
I have also owned a rescue Cat named Sindy - Sleep tight my beautiful girl.xx
We always choose dog friendly holidays, I'm not one for going abroad so it suits me . I have always loved taking holidays with my late girls and when we no longer had them all the spirit had gone I think it made the holiday more enjoyable having them with us . We now take Riley with us although he is much harder work but he absolutely loves it and I wouldn't have it any other way . The only down fall is I have no one to look after little Freddy so he has to go into the Cattery but at least I know he is safe.
We always have at least one/two dog friendly holidays a year too, we usually go to Scotland or wales and book a cottage, we like walking (been up Snowdon twice, once with Samson) so it is nice for Samson to come with us too . We also enjoy our holidays abroad though (going Portugal in easter hols) so it is also nice to have a dog who doesn't mind going in kennels.
Well after a couple of months of searching around online I've finally found a kennel I actually like Booked and paid the deposit today so now I can actually start looking forward to my holiday!
It's a day care and kennel - the boarders have the same routine as the daycare dogs; the only difference is that the boarders obviously stay overnight while the day care dogs are taken home at the end of the day. We went to view the other day and it looks amazing, They are more like rooms than kennels - there are no metal bars/doors, it's all PVC and glass even on the run area so it's not actually open to the elements at all and there isn't so much noise from barking. There is a webcam in the bedroom area of the kennel so I can go on my phone and see what he's doing if I want to, and they post photos & videos on Facebook & Instagram regularly. Every room has a doggy sofa or raised iron frame bed, curtains, and a TV on the wall. They have two large pens with paddling pools, an agility area and two enormous enclosed (8ft fence) grass/woodland paddocks - they get 4x 20 minute exercise periods each day (at least two in the large paddocks) and are free to run, play ball and mix with other dogs if they like.
He hasn't been in kennels since 2012, so I'm hoping all the home comforts will help him settle a bit better, and I was really worried about how much exercise he'd get so being able to run free rather than just walked on lead I'm much happier with.
I've looked at 4 kennels this week and one of them was shocking I was really expecting it to be good as they had so many good reviews online and the website looked great, but it was the worst I've ever seen! Just goes to show you definitely need to look at them before you book. This one didn't even let us look inside the kennels because of 'health and safety'! Wonder what they were hiding The noise was absolutely deafening too which was another concern; at the kennel I've booked there wasn't much barking at all except obviously when we were walking past them they got a bit excited. The size of some of the other kennels we saw were miniscule too, especially when you consider the fact that the outdoor run is shut overnight - at this one he'll have both the bedroom and run area at all times and it's a really generous size.

Sounds a great place alfiemummy. Having looked for catteries in the past I know just what you mean about the varying quality (or lack of) between establishments. Mind you the good ones get booked up really early and/or can cost an arm & a leg!!
Happy days with Roman, Osiris & Lexie (remembering Chloe & Penny)

You're not wrong about it costing an arm and a leg If that's what's necessary for me to actually enjoy my holiday though, then that's what it's going to have to be!
Glad that you've found a kennel your happy with alfiemummy.
That's a concern of ours too, if we ever did go away and family are unable to look after Jasper we'd take him to the lass round the corner who does pet care. he's been to her before so we know he's ok there, but just not overnight.

caz2golden: No idea how I did it but seem to have woken up with cricked neck / pulled muscle. Unable to turn my head to the left or lift my head upwards! It is already really annoying me, pain killers not touched it!
