In the nearly 10 years we've had Tilly, she has covered thousands of miles and always travelled no problems up until this last year. Unfortunately now, she's starting to salivate on the shorter journeys. Up the road journeys she is fine, it's just the slightly longer, more windier roads she's getting travel sick.
Like last year, she probably won't be going away much again this year (which isn't an issue because I won't be away much as I'm also all of the sudden suffering with travel sickness).
Is travel sickness common as dogs get older? Is there anything I can give her to prevent her from feeling sick?
Gypsy used to get travel sick! She never seemed to improve till I got Phoebe when she was sick and Phoebe helped herself (!), she was not impressed but has not been travel sick again!
Think feeding as far in advance of the long journey as possible can help. There are products on the market (i.e Johnsons Travel-Eze or Lintbells YuCalm) but no idea how good they are. Do you think something like adaptil might work if its more of a stress related response? Some people say give them a ginger biscuit like you would a human can help.

I have previousley owned 2 german spitz named Mitzi Moo and Phoebe my 2 little angelsxx gone but never forgotten xx
I have also owned a rescue Cat named Sindy - Sleep tight my beautiful girl.xx
Riley our rough collie suffered really bad with car sickness, i didn't get to the bottom of the road before he was sick,Riley suffers with anxiety issues so that didn't really help. I would put him in the car every day after work and just take him down the road until I eventually managed to take him around the block.I tried sickness tablets from the vets but they did nothing. I found the Adaptil anxiety spray the best and although he isn't sick any more he still drooles quite a lot and his back legs still shake a little bit but he does actually look forward to going in the car , I have tried all sorts from his thunder shirt ,calming tablets but the calming spray seems to work the best , it's well worth a try (:
Sickness is natural and you does not need to worry about it. Also, it is common that as a man gets old he can't travel long so as it is when dogs are getting old they also hates to travel. That's the reason behind it and it is natural so don't worry.
tonib: Sounds like it was a good job we didn't have Roman as a kitten then. He's never misbehaved like that, only his first Xmas with us when he half-inched the stuffing! - I hope that's not famous last words!

tonib: Lexie is another matter but usually not breakables - except potentially of herself when she fell behind the large display cabinet/sideboard on being left alone for the 1st time in our dining room aged 2.5 years!!!

tonib: She jumped on top (via the table I believe) & managed to fall between it & the wall & appeared to be suspended by her head part way down (the gap narrowed!) I had to get a burly neighbour in to help move it, quickly moving weight/breakables as pos. 1st

tonib: She was fine but got checked by vet just in case! That was a heart stopping time, especially her cries!
