I have a Russian Blue named Tiggar and he's an indoor cat. After a previous accident we've realised that he's not too bright when it comes to cars but he's always trying to escape! We have our garden proofed and he really enjoys it out there but the problem we've faced every year is that in the summer we can never have the window open because Tiggar sees it as the great escape. It's been unbearable with the heat and we just couldn't bring ourselves to get one of those ugly window nets. After talking to a friend who recently had shutters installed after a visit to John Lewis we've found the solution. We decided to go for window shutters from Clement Browne, who were also in our local John Lewis and we are absolutely thrilled. They look stunning and we can now have the windows open whenever we like. Keeping the shutter slats open means light and fresh air can get in but Tiggar can't get out! I'm incredibly happy but Tiggar doesn't seem to be.
I thought it might be an excellent solution for us as we have a similar issue for our upstairs windows, not that the cats aren't allowed out but due to at least one we would not trust to go out on to the windowsill & potentially try to jump on to the conservatory roof. We have seen 2 have exit that window in the past - 1 (Penny) managed to reverse & go back along the sill & back in the window whilst the other (Roman) did go out & jumped down on to the conservatory roof (luckily avoiding the roofline spikes!) & had a problem getting a purchase on the sloping roof. He kept sliding but we think the gutter stopped his slide enough for him to get a couple of bounces pack up the roof & on to the windowsill. We were in the garden at the time & had our hearts in our mouths as we watched as it would have been a very hard landing on the patio/pots below. We've also had a cat (Chloe) go out a couple of the front windows onto the porch/garage roof below she was always able to get back in except once, when she was a bit older, & we had to help her. our Lexie is the idiot cat that would try any of these escapades but not succeed as well.
Unfortunately I'm not sure the shutters would suit us as the cats enjoy watching out the window or snoozing on the windowsill cushions we have (they still snoozed there before we had the cushions) & it looks as if the shutters cover the windowsill. But it is worth investigating further, thank you.
We are also looking at the Flat Cat mesh window covers.
Happy days with Roman, Osiris & Lexie (remembering Chloe & Penny)

unpoid: Are you a pet owner who is preparing to move to another place with the pets? While searching for a pet shipper company, you should also give a few thought to how you are going to deal with your pet during your move.
