Last night, Ebony decided that something in the bin was interesting and raided the bin to get it out of the bin (luckily not the kitchen bin which is the bigger bin, it was the small sitting room bin that she raided)
She then decided to guard the bit of rubbish she grabbed (think: Gollum from Lord of the Ring. Myyyyyyy. Preciousssssssss. kind of thing), keeping tight hold of it in her mouth and growling if either me or Tigger tried to either get it off of her or investigated to see what it was. I was a bit concerned in case she swallowed it (it was not food and it wouldn't have done her any good to swallow it, would have caused a blockage)
After a few minutes, after she'd hid with it and fully investigated it and realised it wasn't edible she let me get it off of her, but I'm wondering what could have caused her to suddenly revert to her "stray days" (I am assuming this was how she survived on the streets, considering how ill/injured she was, raiding people's bins and getting any food down her as quick as she can and hiding with it to share with her kittens, which when she was rescued she had 2 surviving babies but it was too late for the others)
Anyone have any ideas why last night she suddenly reverted to bin raiding? As far as I could tell, everything was the same as normal and there was no food in the bin (although some packaging in the kitchen bin smelled of food but nothing in the bin she raided smelled of food)
Strange.....something must have set Ebony off to do that. I once rescued a stray that had young kittens and like Ebony, had to scrounge for food - she stole a bag of bone meal from inside the greenhouse and dragged it across the garden leaving a trail behind and at the time I used to put out food for hedgehogs and that's how I realised she was a stray when I saw her stealing it. I started to put food out for her and watch from a distance and she brought her 3 kittens to the garden. I asked Cats Protection for a cage to trap the kittens so I could rehome them but they didn't even get back to me. I managed to eventually lure the kittens into a cat box with food but they were down to 2 by then. I never saw mum cat scrounge in the bin after I had rescued her though.
tonib: Sounds like it was a good job we didn't have Roman as a kitten then. He's never misbehaved like that, only his first Xmas with us when he half-inched the stuffing! - I hope that's not famous last words!

tonib: Lexie is another matter but usually not breakables - except potentially of herself when she fell behind the large display cabinet/sideboard on being left alone for the 1st time in our dining room aged 2.5 years!!!

tonib: She jumped on top (via the table I believe) & managed to fall between it & the wall & appeared to be suspended by her head part way down (the gap narrowed!) I had to get a burly neighbour in to help move it, quickly moving weight/breakables as pos. 1st

tonib: She was fine but got checked by vet just in case! That was a heart stopping time, especially her cries!
