I'm thinking of getting a new vacuum cleaner. At the moment I have two Dyson cleaners, the first one is one of the original ones and must be at least 20 years old. It's still going strong but don't think it's picking up as it should, and the other is about 10 years old and the long extension tube is split and held together with duct tape.
So I'm thinking of getting a cordless cleaner and wondered if anyone already has one what your thoughts of them are. More importantly if they are any good on dog/cat hairs.
Bit late to the party lol....I’ve got a cordless Dyson animal v6, when I first got it about a year ago it was such a novelty for me and I couldn’t believe the suction, used to whizz about the house 3 times a day ha ha and sook up all those swirls of dog hair that gather in the corner. Nowadays I’m pretty sure I don’t hoover as much as I should do, certain of it infact ha ha, so for the carpeted bedrooms I’ll maybe need to go over twice but for the laminate areas it’s great. Though due to size of ball on joint at bottom it doesn’t get quite as far under sofa/table etc as old hoover used to. Due to Dottys long hair I do have to clear out the roller brush more than I would otherwise but not a problem and easy to do. My friend just recently got a shark and she loves it, she’s had cats in the past but not at the moment. Have you decided yet what to do? I love a good hoover recommendation lol
I've been looking and the new Dyson animal comes out top even over the Dyson v8, but the new shark is supposed to have more suction than the v8, but I can't find any reviews of it so still undecided.
Like you I don't hoover as much as I should do, and Jasper mault like there is no tomorrow and all my house is carpeted except for the kitchen. It's the stairs that is the main bug bare so could do with one that turns into a hand held.
I have a dyson and probably always will, its not cordless but my latest one has a verrrrry long cord compared to previous one, anyways my sister converted to a dyson too BUT.... shes now moved over to a shark and loves it, said its much better, not sure my comments will help ? LOL But its down to each persons perception as to what is good eh ? I have a friend who has the cordless dyson and said it wouldn't pull a skin off a rice pudding
I use a cordless Dyson at a house I clean every fortnight, not sure which model but it all ways run out of charge before I can finish. It's not even a very big house and I usually end up having to sweep the rest of the house, which is quite annoying!
That's why I think when I get a cordless i'm going to go for the new shark one with 2 batteries so there is always one charged. Unlike the Dyson were it only has the one battery that you can't change, the shark one has removable batteries.
We have a cordless Dyson (not sure which one!) and we love it. That's it's only big flaw though - it runs out of charge fairly quickly. Does ok for us as we still also have an old corded Dyson for a proper deep clean of the house. The corded doesn't make an appearance very often though, the cordless might not last for ages but is excellent for little and often whizzing quickly round the house and saves lugging the heavy corded one around.
Can't say much about how great it is picking up hairs as Alfie doesn't really shed much, and we don't have much carpet either so while it's great for us I'm not sure how good it would be for you with lots of carpet and a dog that sheds a lot!
My friend got a Gtech and sent it back as she said it was useless so I'd probably avoid that! She has a lot of carpet and a dog that sheds a fair bit.
That's exactly what I want it for alfiemummy, little and often. Then hopefully the carpets will get done more often so wont be as bad. It's such a pain getting the corded one out and unplugging something to plug the Dyson in and trying to do the stairs always ends up giving me a headache, so something lighter would be a really help. Especially when I'm doing long hour at work.

We can probably get around one level of the house, the stairs and a few shelves etc before the battery runs out, I think it's only about 20 mins (even less if you put it on boost mode). Or just enough charge to hoover out one car pretty thoroughly.
We have 2 dyaon v6 wounderful but as waa said trying to get under things just doesn't go under far enough other than they are faultless and with a moonbeam loosing piles of fur it needs to be good these must be our 5th dyaon
There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: Music and Cats
Well It's arrived! Unpacked it all, (So much packaging it looked like Christmas morning) and had a quick read of how to put it together.
Batteries needed charging for 3.5 hours to fully charge and off I went. I did the living room (2 rooms knocked into 1) the hallway, kitchen and stairs, with 1 battery. It has a boost that I didn't use, but I also has a carpet setting for thick carpet that makes the rollers go round faster and I used this in the hall and on the stairs.
I can now say I LOVE IT! Picked up the dog hair like my corded Dyson, so pleased I got it.
tonib: She was fine but got checked by vet just in case! That was a heart stopping time, especially her cries!
